Torin-ji in Asakusa
One brush, one sheet of paper, and ink. Calligraphy uses extremely simple tools. With these tools, you create a variety of lines and pursue the beauty of blank spaces — that is the essence of calligraphy. Let’s enjoy calligraphy freely and boldly.
Schedule
1. Calligraphy Work (Shikishi Board)
To understand brush strokes, you will learn the basic lines by writing cursive characters like 松 (matsu), 竹 (take), 梅 (ume), 桜 (sakura), and 寿 (kotobuki). Don’t worry if you don’t understand Japanese; you can easily write artistic characters. You can take the completed work home with you.
2. Calligraphy Work (Panel)
Once you become familiar with brush strokes through practicing cursive characters, please enjoy calligraphy as modern art. Design your own composition and create a beautiful world of ink colors and blank spaces. The panel you create will bring a new breeze into your home as modern art.
